About this trip

Being based in California we are, of course, biased, but believe this elegant and leisurely holiday is spectacular even by our standards. Its centerpiece is the stunning Sea of Cortez, described by Jacques Cousteau as “the world’s aquarium” and celebrated by John Steinbeck for good reason.

“The Sea of Cortez has a color, an individuality, a tone, which distinguishes it from all other pieces of water.”

— John Steinbeck, The Log from the Sea of Cortez

But the Sea of Cortez is just one of the visual treats of this holiday. We begin in San Jose, with free airport transfers, then ride behind steam through the coastal mountains near Santa Cruz on the famed Roaring Camp Railroad. Next comes a relaxing two-night stay in historic Monterey, with Monterey State Historic Park, Fisherman’s Wharf, the awe-inspiring 17-Mile Drive, charming Carmel, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and Cannery Row.

After two leisurely days in Monterey, we board the Coast Starlight for the legendary trip to Southern California over the Union Pacific Coast Route, including 131 miles along the ocean - a train trip everyone should do once. After an overnight in Oxnard, we drive down the celebrated Ventura Highway to Los Angeles and board Crown Princess for our 11-day Baja Peninsula & Sea of Cortez cruise, including two days in beautiful Cabo San Lucas.

With fine hotels, great sightseeing, a brilliant design, and extras like a professional tour manager, special parties and events, and much more, this trip is certain to sell out. We invite you to join us.
