Not only are there spectacular train rides, but plenty of free time, with the majority of our hotel stays being two or three nights long. During this trip, we will enjoy rides on the Heber Valley Railroad, the Nevada Northern Railroad, the Virginia & Truckee Railroad, the Placerville & Sacramento Valley Road, the Sierra Railroad, the Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad, and the Roaring Camp Railroad on a carefully planned itinerary.
Beginning in Salt Lake City at the acclaimed Little America Hotel, we travel west, hitting the historic mining town of Ely, NV, then onward to storied Virginia City and Lake Tahoe, where a three-hour lake cruise is included. Then, into Northern California with a visit to Yosemite, all before ending in San Jose, CA. All hotels are well-chosen and include breakfast daily in addition to welcome and farewell dinners and countless other treats like an organ Concert at Temple Square in Salt Lake City and a visit to the amazing National Car Museum in Reno, NV.

Guests arrive in Salt Lake City and check into one of our favorite hotels, the Little America. Later, we meet our travel host and fellow travelers at a reception.
After breakfast, we depart for the Heber Valley Railroad and later, we return to Salt Lake City with a visit to Temple Square before our welcome dinner.
Our day begins with a drive to Ely, Nevada stopping on the way at the famed Bonneville Salt Flats. Later today, we board the historic Nevada Northern Railway with a tour of their historic shops and Museum . We overnight at the at the Hotel Nevada.
Today is a drive over famed HWY 50, the ‘Loneliest Road in America’ through small towns like Austin and Eureka before an afternoon arrival in Reno for a three-night stay at the superb Silver Legacy Hotel.
Today is a treat with a visit to fabled Virginia City, NV, with a ride aboard the most famous shortline railroad ever, the Virginia & Truckee, with plenty of time to explore Virginia City with a drink in the famous Delta Saloon. Later, a visit to the National Car Museum in Reno, the best car museum in the country.
A stunning day with a short drive to Lake Tahoe, with a two-hour boat ride on this cobalt blue lake that takes in Emerald Bay. Many people find this the prettiest day of the trip, and there are stops for photos as we sightsee in Lake Tahoe. Tonight is a special dinner in Reno with our final night at the Silver Legacy.
Another great day with a ride on the obscure Sacramento & Placerville Railroad followed by the Sierra Railroad in Jamestown. If you remember Petticoat Junction on TV, this was filmed on the Sierra Railroad. We overnight in Jamestown, CA.
Another day that breaks the English language as we tour awesome Yosemite on our way to the Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad for a steam train ride through the Redwoods. Overnight at the Holiday Inn in Oakhurst, CA.
A scenic drive brings us to lovely Santa Cruz on the California coast for lunch followed by a steam train through the Redwoods over the Roaring Camp & Big Trees Railroad. Later, a short drive to San Jose and the Doubletree Hotel and our farewell dinner.
